Monday, June 7th
It was our last day of kindergarten! We had a morning meeting, then went to the all school assembly in the gym. We got to watch a slide show of all the kids/activities at Horizon. We sang the Horizon song together. When we got back to our classroom we did beach relays with Mrs. Whitney's class. It was fun. We did a fish relay, a spoon zoom with sea shells, a flip flop relay, and a water relay using wet sponges. :) Then we had a picnic lunch in our community area. We played outside for noon recess, then came back to our classroom for a short "beach" rest time. We did different beach stations...ocean book looks from the pool, fish creation station, and float or sink. We celebrated Shae's birthday. She brought cupcakes to share with us. :) We got to play in inflatables in the gym. They were sponsored by our PTO. It was awesome! We were tired after that. We came back to the room for our afternoon meeting. We sang, and said goodbye to each other. We ended our day with a hug. :) It was a fun beach day and a great school year! Happy Summer to all the Kindergarteners and families of Room 163! Enjoy.....

B and Libby came to visit us today. B read a book to us. Libby wrote us a note and gave us first grade pencils. We are supposed to use them in our summer journals. We had outside recess. We spent time with our fourth grade buddies. We wrote our buddies a note and they gave us a note. We had popcisles on the playground with them and we took a walk. We ate lunch. We had art class. Laura was the sound crown greeter. It was our 177th day of school. We celebrated Cameron's birthday today! Cameron brought cupcakes to share and he got to take the first bite. His real birthday is August 9th. We had lots of great acts in our Kindergarten Capers talent show. We had quiet rest time. Pete was our line backer. Natalie was our line leader. Our baby chicks hatched over the weekend! :) We got to hold them today. They are soft. One more chick needs to hatch. We finished our chick journals. The chicks are cute! Field day is on Friday. We need to remember to...wear tennis shoes, bring sunscreen, and a bring a water bottle. Our names should be on the water bottles and sunscreen. We caught a lot of fish at the farm. 109! Wow! Pete Sackett caught the biggest fish that day. :) We celebrated Eli's birthday at the farm. He brought us donuts and juice for breakfast that day. The bull got out when we were fishing. There was a lot of mud at the farm. We had fun. We saw and momma goat and her baby (kid). We had lots of parents go with us, along with a grandma. We had fun fishing. It was a long bus ride. We saw cow manure. We saw some baby cows. (calves) Today was our 170th day of school. Erik M. was our line backer.

We still need at least 10 egg cartons. Please send one to school when you get an empty one. Thank you. We have enough milk jugs. Students need to remember and return their art magnets if they are not going to be purchased. If you want to keep it, please send the money to school with your child. Spring pictures are coming home today. They need to be returned if you don't want to purchase them. Thanks for your help on both of these items.

March News from Mrs. Strayer

We’re in the jungle!

Throughout the month of March our theme is the African jungle. On Thursday, April 1st, we would like to invite you to our jungle village. We will send you an official invitation, but it will probably be around 2:30 p.m., if you would like to put it on your calendar. At this time we will share our jungle logs where we are recording everything we are learning and doing while we are here. You will also see our jungle puzzles. Each day during “jungle center”time, the students have a chance to earn puzzle pieces by completing skill activities. These skills involve language and math development.


The bears (Beatrice and Bernard) have started visiting homes. They will be with us until the end of April or first of May. We look forward to sharing journal entries each day. Thank you for your cooperation with this project. Jesse Bears were due back on February 26th. The ones we have shared have been awesome. “Beary” good readers will continue as long as we have Beatrice and Bernard. Enjoy reading with your child.


Thank you for your attendance at parent teacher conferences. Your support throughout the school year has been tremendous. You have made a difference in your child’s academic skills by completing School-Home Links, and backpack homework. Thanks for your continuing effort and work with your child on these. They will continue to come home throughout the remainder of the school year.
